October 25, 2026. With the goal of offering a more economical fuel alternative with lower emissions for the transport sector, Quavii—a Promigas company responsible for the widespread adoption of natural gas in northern Peru—has inaugurated the first compressed natural gas (CNG) station in Cajamarca. The infrastructure will serve taxis, private vehicles, and commercial fleets, helping to reduce fuel costs for drivers.
The “Servicentro Primavera” station, located at the intersection of the Southern Bypass (Vía de Evitamiento Sur) and Jirón San Juan de Dios, represents an investment of nearly USD 1 million by the station’s owner. The facility is connected directly to Quavii’s natural gas distribution network, ensuring a continuous supply for vehicles and extending the availability of CNG to the northern highlands of the country.
“This inauguration marks a significant step forward in the expansion of CNG into new cities across the country. Cajamarca now has the infrastructure to integrate this fuel into local transport, creating conditions for more drivers to access its benefits. In the north of the country, we have 19 connected CNG stations serving over 22,000 vehicles, ranging from light-duty cars to heavy-duty freight trucks,” stated Alexandra Boero, Corporate Affairs Manager at Promigas Peru.
The new station is equipped with CNG storage, compression, and dispensing systems. It has a projected daily consumption of 5,600 standard cubic meters and an initial capacity to serve approximately 620 vehicles. Its operation is expected to have a direct economic impact on 2,500 people, including vehicle owners, drivers, and families connected to the urban and commercial transport sectors.
In Cajamarca, 140 vehicles have already been converted to run on CNG through four local workshops that offer this service. This boost is thanks to the Ahorro GNV (CNG Savings) program, managed by the Social Energy Inclusion Fund (FISE), which anticipates that the first 500 users in the region will be able to convert their vehicles through a non-repayable financing arrangement. This measure aims to facilitate the switch to a different fuel and reduce the initial investment that vehicle owners must cover.
