Route to Monterrey Airport introduces 40 gas-powered buses

This route crosses through the municipalities of Apodaca, San Nicolás, Guadalupe, and Monterrey.

November 13, 2025. Route 109, which serves the Monterrey Airport in Mexico, received approximately 40 buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).

This route crosses through the municipalities of Apodaca, San Nicolás, Guadalupe, and Monterrey; while Route 219 crosses through Apodaca and Guadalupe.

Metrorrey’s General Director, Abraham Vargas, indicated that, given the route’s complexity, more buses will be assigned to this area to ensure wait times are not affected.

“We are practically doubling service and cutting wait times in half. Before, the wait time for these buses was more than 25 minutes, and they were always full; now they will arrive every 15 minutes,” he emphasized.

Governor Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda announced that the 40 compressed natural gas buses from the Chinese brand Golden Dragon are part of the first restructuring of the Pesquería-Apodaca-Monterrey bus route.

It is estimated that the route will have its entire fleet of buses renewed by November.

As part of the state government’s strategy to improve public transportation, a comprehensive restructuring of urban routes is being implemented. This initiative aims to optimize service without affecting coverage, thus guaranteeing a more efficient and accessible service for users in the Monterrey Metropolitan Area.
