Powered by biogas or biodiesel, Scania's Fencer 6 school coach offers operators a versatile vehicle that respects environmental concerns and offers travelers a bright, spacious and contemporary environment.

November 28, 2021. Powered by biogas or biodiesel and with a capacity for 63 passengers, Scania’s Fencer 6 school coach offers operators a versatile vehicle that respects environmental concerns and offers travelers a bright, spacious and contemporary environment.

“This new vehicle will allow us to conquer an important segment of the market in which we were not yet present. It will offer carriers the advantage of taking a new step towards the energy transition thanks to its engines powered by alternative fuels”, underlines Damien Thomine, Director of Coaches at Scania France.

Measuring 13.07 meters long and 2.55 meters wide, the two-axle bus is available in two heights: 3.31 meters for the biodiesel version and 3.60 meters for the biogas version.

Also, the model has two engines available as a base:

  • The 9-liter engine that develops 320 hp (235 kW), a torque of 1600 Nm and allows the use of biodiesel, synthetic diesel (xTL or HVO) and conventional diesel.
  • The 9-liter engine producing 280 hp (206 kW) for 1,300 Nm of torque, with eight 120-liter cylinders mounted on the roof that have a total capacity of 960 liters, being filled from the front.

The unit features the Opticruise GRS895R twelve-speed robotic gearbox, integrated retarder, disc brakes, electronic braking system, EBS, ABS, traction control, TC and operating assist brake, FAE. Hill start assistant, a reversing camera and automatic engine shutdown in the event of fire complete the vehicle’s equipment.

The headlights, daytime running lights, position lights and indicators are LED. The cockpit is equipped with an ISRI pneumatic seat with three-point belt and two armrests, electro-pneumatic handbrake, FM/DAB+ radio, electric front sun visor, heated manual mirrors and a lockable driver’s compartment.

“In addition to its Scania equipment and powertrain, which make the brand’s reputation, the Fencer 6 benefits from the density of the Scania network in France, which has around 100 points. This is a guarantee of availability. Decreasing downtime and increasing vehicle use are the keys to profitable public transportation. The Fencer 6 will contribute greatly to this goal while preserving the environment,” concludes Thomine.
