Scania X-gas with 900 km range is launched in Brazil

Powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) or biomethane, the model promises, according to the manufacturer, a range of 900 km.

July 17, 2023. Scania announced the arrival of its first gas truck developed in Brazil, the Scania X-gas. Powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) or biomethane, the model promises, according to the manufacturer, a range of 900 km. The launch will be available in the last quarter of 2023 and joins the rest of the models marketed by the company since 2019, integrating into the brand’s strategy aimed at decarbonizing the fleet.

The Scania X-gas is a G 410 8×2 model with a rigid chassis, the engine has 410 hp, being the most powerful in the 8×2 category. The wheelbase is 6.95 meters. To provide the 900 km of autonomy, 16 gas cylinders were accommodated along the sides (eight on each side). Half of them have a capacity of 118 liters, while the other part can store 95 liters, which translates into more than 406 cubic meters of gas.

The Director of New Business Development of Scania Commercial Operations Brazil, Marcelo Gallao, spoke about the new vehicle. “Scania X-gas is a source of pride for the brand’s Brazilian engineering and a project that aims to change the profile of a more sustainable transport in the country. We are already having success with the 410cv gas models, sold since 2019. As of the last quarter of the year, this new version can already be sold, following all the homologation regulations. But, from now on, we can already receive orders”, says Gallao.
