The EMT Madrid adds 91 new CNG buses to the municipal fleet

The Municipal Transport Company of Madrid, Spain, has received the new CNG buses from the manufacturer Solaris in Sanchinarro.

February 1, 2022. The Municipal Transport Company (EMT) of Madrid, Spain, has received the new compressed natural gas (CNG) buses from the manufacturer Solaris in Sanchinarro.

The EMT has been gradually incorporating batches of the Solaris Urbino CNG model, forming a fleet of 91 units, which are currently part of the large award made in March 2021: a total of 520 CNG buses for the years 2021, 2022 and 2023 and 50 electrical.

This standard bus model is equipped with a maximum power of 320 CV, at 2,000 rpm. It also has two 24 V batteries and five gas cylinders with a capacity of 315 liters each. Inside the vehicle there are two 29” ultra-wide screens and a double platform. Its capacity is suitable for 27 seated passengers and 73 standing, in addition to four jumbo seats.

The Solaris are in Madrid and some of them began a route on the special line that the EMT chartered for the transfer of athletes for the World Wheelchair Basketball Championship last December. This CNG vehicle model is being incorporated, for the moment, in several lines such as 11, 43, 74 and 159. It will also be incorporated in lines 4, 38, 48, 106, 109, 110, 165, 210, 215 and T23, and in summer they could be extended to six more.

The EMT expects to receive another 96 buses of this brand in this new year to reinforce its fleet. Its manufacture will be carried out in Poland and during 2023 it is expected that another 63 units will arrive.
