June 7, 2022. UISA added to its agricultural fleet the first truck powered by natural gas in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil.
“The model provides sustainable aspects such as a 90% reduction in emissions, in relation to diesel vehicles, in addition to reducing costs for the company’s business,” says the company.
The truck, model Scania G 410 XT, will be used in the agricultural sector for testing over a period of 30 days.
The tests are part of the UISA Geo Biogas project, a plant to be built in the UISA industrial complex, which will produce renewable and carbon-neutral fuel to replace the use of diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in tractors and trucks. The initiative represents an important step in the decarbonization process of its production chain.
According to José Fernando Mazuca Filho, General Director of UISA, the project demonstrates sustainable growth based on economic development and circular economy. “We will use our own waste as feedstock to produce other renewable fuels. We are in a circular economy, capturing these gases and making an energetic and sustainable use of them within our fleet, with cost reduction and a positive environmental footprint”, affirms the executive.
The initiative will allow the company to learn about the benefits and efficiency of the model so that, after the installation of the new biogas plant, it can make possible changes in the fuel supply of agricultural vehicles and machines, since natural gas can be combined with biomethane. UISA will use filter cake and vinasse to generate biogas, which will be purified to generate electricity and used to produce biomethane.
