August 29, 2020. The official carrier of the Tour de France, XPO Logistics, will use natural gas trucks for the first time in the famous cycle race.
Official partner of the Tour de France for 40 years, XPO Logistics is committed this year to more sustainable logistics. Transporting some 420 tons of goods on behalf of the organizers, this year the company will mobilize 68 drivers and 52 trucks to supervise the competition. In addition to a fleet of Euro 6 diesel trucks, the carrier will be using heavy duty vehicles running on natural gas for the first time. Two in total, these natural gas trucks will be used for the arrival of the Tour to the Champs-Elysées, scheduled for September 20.
“We are delighted to celebrate four decades with the Tour de France. XPO’s support reaches new heights this year, with more trucks and drivers than ever, adapted and strengthened health and safety protocols, and increasingly environmentally friendly operations,” explains Luis Gómez, XPO’s General Director of Transportation for Europe.
A pioneer in the field of natural gas, XPO Logistics deployed its first natural gas trucks in France in 2016. At the end of 2019, the company ordered an additional 100 units from Iveco.
