March 20, 2024. The municipal vehicle – which has been operating for three years and allows linking the three population centers of Vila-seca, La Plana and La Pineda – has been widely accepted among users. Thus, during its first 10 months, nearly 44,000 people traveled, and, in 2023, there were more than 180,000 passengers, a record number.
The model that operates in Vila-seca is the first and only bus with compressed natural gas (CNG) in the entire Camp de Tarragona, Spain. This fuel reduces the emission of reference pollutants for air quality to almost zero. In fact, it completely eliminates sulfur emissions, reduces emissions of solid particles by 96%, emissions of nitrogen oxides by 85% and carbon monoxide and CO2 emissions by up to 25%.
It also helps reduce noise pollution, since natural gas engines produce 50% less sound and vibrations than diesel vehicles.
