October 20, 2023. Île-de-France Mobilités inaugurated the new infrastructure of the Aubervilliers bus station managed by the Paris Autonomous Transport Region (RATP).

The energy transition in transport is a priority for Île-de-France Mobilités in order to respond to the crucial challenges of climate change. The goal is to have a 100% clean bus fleet in dense areas in 2025 and throughout the Region in 2029.

The conversion of the bus operating center (COB) of Aubervilliers, the largest station managed by the RATP for Île-de-France Mobilités, and the launch of infrastructure and buses to Bio-CNG, constitute a new important step in the important operational conversion program of bus centers to electricity and biogas. Since the beginning of the school year, 40 centers have been transformed and more than thirty will do so in the coming months. This is essential for putting clean vehicles into service.

Aubervilliers is the seventh bus operating center, operated by RATP, to be converted to Bio-CNG, after those in Créteil, Thiais, Massy, Bussy, Nanterre and Pavillons-sous-Bois. The works, started in 2021, were completed in September 2023. They made it possible to install 97 slow filling stations, 4 fast supply stations, one compression station and a storage facility to supply fast recharges.

On this occasion, the biomethane fleet operated by the RATP exceeds the symbolic threshold of bus number 1,000. It is part of the sustained effort led by Île-de-France Mobilités for the energy transition. Since 2016, it has participated in the most ambitious program in Europe to respond to industrial and public health challenges. Regarding buses, Île-de-France Mobilités put an end to the acquisition of diesel vehicles since 2016. Currently, 35% of its fleet (almost 4,000 buses) is clean.

The objective is to have, by 2025 in Paris and in 2029 in the outskirts, 100% of the Île-de-France Mobilités fleet composed of more ecological units, of which 70% will circulate with Bio-CNG, that is, more than 7,000 buses and coaches.
