Grupo Metropol invests USD 45 million in 150 CNG buses for Buenos Aires

The Argentine company announced a USD 45 million investment to acquire 150 buses manufactured by King Long in China.

November 21, 2025. The Argentine company announced a USD 45 million investment to acquire 150 buses manufactured by King Long in China. These buses will begin arriving between December and January, as part of a complete fleet renewal plan aligned with the efficient and clean mobility goals promoted by the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.

The Grupo Metropol board of directors traveled to Xiamen, China, to oversee and formally receive the vehicles, which have already begun their journey to Argentina. This initiative is part of the company’s complete fleet renewal plan for the urban bus lines it operates in the city, in line with the Buenos Aires City Government’s incentives to move towards cleaner and more efficient mobility.

The addition of these CNG buses represents progress in the energy transition of urban public transportation. The new vehicles reduce emissions of particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxide by up to 25% per kilometer, contributing to improved air quality and a better urban environment. Furthermore, their quieter operation fosters more peaceful urban environments and more pleasant journeys.

Each unit incorporates Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), safety cameras, advanced telemetry, and smart sensors for predictive maintenance, providing enhanced safety technology and operational efficiency. The production and delivery cycle for the 150 units was completed in 16 business days, demonstrating the technological and volume capabilities of the Chinese industrial ecosystem.

“Being at the plant, seeing the finished units, and preparing them for shipment is a historic moment for our company and the sector. This investment reflects our commitment to cleaner, more modern, and more efficient mobility for passengers and the city,” said Eduardo Zbikoski, Director of Grupo Metropol.
