June 21, 2026. The Minister of Energy and Mines, Waldir Ayasta Mechán, led the relaunch ceremony of the CNG Savings program in the Piura region of Peru, stating that this initiative facilitates vehicle conversion to natural gas through financing with no down payment and zero interest.
From the San José station, located on the Sullana-Piura highway, he noted that CNG Savings, a program financed by the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE), aims to reduce fuel costs for users, promote cleaner mobility, and strengthen the use of natural gas as a strategic resource for the country’s development.
He added that in the Piura region, the program has financed 2.849 vehicle conversions, helping more drivers access a more economical fuel with a lower environmental impact.
“And, at the national level, the program has financed over 174.000 conversions, establishing itself as an effective tool to promote the use of natural gas, reduce families’ fuel expenses, and strengthen the transition to cleaner energy,” he emphasized.
Ayasta highlighted that the Piura region is showing positive progress in the adoption of CNG, and between April and June of this year, a significant increase in conversions was recorded, driven by the opening of a second CNG refueling station in the city.
“Further growth in conversions is expected with the upcoming opening of a refueling station on the road to Paita, which will expand service coverage and facilitate access to CNG for more users in the region,” he concluded.
