August 22, 2026. The National Business Association of Colombia (ANDI) and Naturgas held the Hydrogen and Renewable Gases Forum, a venue for analyzing the challenges and opportunities shaping the development of hydrogen, biogas, and biomethane in Colombia, as well as their potential to contribute to the country’s energy security, investment, and economic growth.
During the opening of the Forum, Bruce Mac Master, President of ANDI, emphasized the need to reactivate the economy with growth rates between 4% and 5% as a prerequisite for addressing the country’s structural problems. In this context, the mining and energy sector is solidifying its position as a key economic driver, with the potential to account for 6.6% of GDP.
Mac Master specifically highlighted Colombia’s potential regarding hydrogen. According to ANDI’s findings, there are currently 72 announced projects representing an investment opportunity exceeding US$20 billion; these projects could also generate significant value chain linkages in sectors such as fertilizer production, heavy-duty transport, and refining, among others.
Developing these initiatives offers an opportunity to attract investment, create jobs, strengthen productive capacities, and advance the creation of a more diversified and resilient energy matrix.
Regarding biogas, the analysis identifies Valle del Cauca, Antioquia, and Cundinamarca as the regions with the greatest potential for developing this energy source, based on their productive capacities and biomass availability.
Meanwhile, Luz Stella Murgas, President of Naturgas, emphasized that the energy transition must be viewed from a broad perspective, allowing for the coexistence of diverse sources and technologies.
“The energy transition does not exclude any source or technology. The figures show the magnitude of the opportunity before us. Today, low-emission hydrogen accounts for 9% of global production. The challenge is to convince the world that hydrogen can be used on a large scale while simultaneously making progress toward producing it more competitively,” concluded the industry representative.
