Peru surpasses 10,000 heavy-duty vehicles powered by natural gas

The integration of CNG-powered units will lead to operational cost savings of up to 60%, as natural gas offers greater price stability.

November 2, 2026. The fleet of heavy-duty vehicles operating on compressed natural gas (CNG) in Peru has reached a new milestone with the addition of the 10,000th unit—acquired by UNICON. In total, UNICON will receive 90 new CAMC mixer trucks from the dealership San Bartolomé, all equipped to run on CNG.

The initiative involves the participation of Cálidda, a natural gas distribution company serving Lima and Callao, as well as the Camisea Consortium; both have been actively promoting the adoption of this energy source within the heavy-duty transport sector.

By renewing its fleet, UNICON—a provider of ready-mix concrete solutions and part of the UNACEM Group—will strengthen its operational capacity and increase the number of vehicles available to meet client demand.

Furthermore, the integration of CNG-powered units will lead to operational cost savings of up to 60%, as natural gas offers greater price stability.

“This fleet renewal by UNICON contributes to the climate action to which we are all committed. Celebrating the arrival of the 10,000th CNG-powered heavy-duty vehicle in Peru marks a solid step forward in the nation’s energy transition,” stated Raquel Soto Torres, Deputy Minister of Environmental Management at the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM).

“Today, nearly 55% of our national fleet runs on CNG, and we expect to surpass 57%. As part of the UNACEM Group, this commitment reflects our purpose: to grow while building a more sustainable world through concrete actions in our daily operations,” noted Kurt Uzátegui, General Manager of UNICON.
