Amazonas discusses the conversion of the state government fleet to the use of natural gas

The initiative is part of the actions that the Government of Amazonas has been developing in the strategic action plan that aims to encourage the use of CNG in the state fleet.

November 14, 2021. The head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Sedecti), Jório Veiga, met with his counterpart of the Ministry of Administration and Management (Sead), Fabricio Barbosa, to discuss the conversion of part of the fleet of vehicles of the Government of Amazonas, Brazil, to operate on compressed natural gas (CNG). The idea is that these units will be converted by the end of this year.

The Sedecti initiative is part of the actions that the Government of Amazonas has been developing in the strategic action plan that aims to encourage the use of CNG in the state fleet and also implement the State Policy to Incentive the Use of Renewable Energies and Efficiency Energy of the State of Amazonas. The goal is to increase the use of renewable and clean energies, thus diversifying the local energy matrix.

During the meeting, the possibility of reducing the Motor Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA) was discussed, as well as the bureaucracy in granting licenses to private drivers who convert their units to natural gas.

The head of Sedecti, Jório Veiga, highlighted the importance of the meeting in the search for a series of solutions with innovative projects for the management of the Government of Amazonas. “Among them, we highlight the use of CNG that provides greater sustainability in terms of the environment, since it pollutes less, in addition to providing opportunities for those who need greater profitability of their activities in economic terms,” ​​explained the official.

For Barbosa, the meeting was very fruitful and the alliance with Sedecti is very important to tackle projects focused on the issue of sustainability, mainly in the areas of natural gas and renewable energy.
