22 new natural gas buses improve mobility in France

With the implemented improvements, the number of passengers is expected to increase from 8,000 to 13,000 per day.

December 25, 2025. For ten years, ZENIBUS has transported a large number of residents between Les Pennes-Mirabeau, Vitrolles, Saint-Victoret, and Marignane, carrying a total of 1.5 million passengers annually. Its route connects the Estroublans business park, the Pierre Plantée bus station in Vitrolles—one of the largest in the metropolitan area—and the Florides technology park in Marignane.

Following this success, an extension was inaugurated, adding 7 kilometers to serve important new economic centers, as well as the Plan de Campagne shopping area. This transformation also includes two new lines, ZEN A and ZEN B, which double the transport options on this route, one of the busiest in the region. Twenty-two compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, with a capacity of 103 seats each, now offer a cleaner, quieter, and more modern service.

With the implemented improvements, the number of passengers is expected to increase from 8,000 to 13,000 per day, demonstrating a project designed for smoother, more environmentally friendly, and accessible mobility for all. The surrounding area has already been improved with the planting of 378 trees and 12,000 shrubs along the route. Safety has been enhanced with the installation of more than 40 cameras.

The Greater Lyon Metropolitan Area has also implemented structural improvements, such as 4 kilometers of dedicated bus lanes, which ensure speed and reliability. A complete cycle path is also planned, running from the village of Pennes-Mirabeau to Plan de Campagne.

Therefore, ZENIBUS is not just a transport line: it is an investment in improving mobility, supporting businesses, and enhancing the quality of life for everyone. Furthermore, from 2027, the line will also connect with the future Plan de Campagne multimodal transport hub.
