August 7, 2024. Corporación Aceros Arequipa (CAASA), a leader in the Peruvian steel industry, announced the acquisition of 20 new state-of-the-art compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks, the cleanest fossil fuel on the market, with a total investment of S/13 million.
The company estimates that with the incorporation of these vehicles, CO2 emissions will be reduced by one-fifth compared to the use of diesel units.
“We have continued to renew the fleet of diesel trucks with Euro 6 CNG trucks. With this purchase, our fleet now totals 52 vehicles of this type, since last year we acquired 32. This decision responds to our commitment to environmental management. In addition, the renovation included the evaluation of the best available technology to minimize the environmental impact, respecting the environment and improving the efficiency and performance of its operations,” said Mariana Talavera Rubina, Supply Chain Manager of Aceros Arequipa.
The trucks, Scania brand model G410 6×4 CNG year 2023, are equipped with a 410 hp engine designed specifically for natural gas combustion, complying with the Euro 6 emissions standard. At the same time, they include the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) to improve safety and significantly reduce the risk of traffic accidents.
These trucks will cover the Pisco–Lima–Pisco route, traveling approximately 540 kilometers per trip, have a payload capacity of 35 tons and additional cylinders to increase their travel autonomy, ensuring an efficient and sustainable operation.
