December 5, 2021. The National Gas Regulatory Entity (ENARGAS) approved, through Resolution N° 432/2021, Standard NAG-452 for the authorization of vehicles for transport, produced in the national territory, powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The new regulation establishes the procedure to authorize the use and supply of natural gas as fuel in road vehicles destined to the transport of passengers or cargo, from the moment of its production in the country until the subsequent controls after its commercialization inclusive. For this reason, NAG-452 is aimed at regulating a new pole of demand for natural gas, which will entail the development of high added value technologies and the generation of new sources of work with the use of qualified labor.
The initiative was carried out with the purpose of promoting and facilitating policies aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of the public land transport service for passengers or cargo, in terms of healthier mobility due to the reduction of gaseous and sound polluting emissions, particularly valuable in areas of high urban concentration and due to the decrease in logistics costs, with the use of a lower relative price fuel.
In addition, it intends to promote a safe and rational use of energy, taking into account the use of certified technologies through national regulations, international and regional standards and from countries with recognized experience in the matter.
Finally, the measure rescues the possibility of encouraging a competitive resource at scale, such as natural gas production in the Neuquén and Austral basins, now driven by investments in unconventional geological areas.
