July 13, 2024. Announced a few weeks ago, Bajaj’s first natural gas motorcycle has just been officially revealed. Classified in the category of 125 equivalent models, this small unit combines energy efficiency and aggressive pricing.
As the name suggests, the Freedom 125 is equipped with a 125 cc, 9.4 horsepower engine mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Slightly less powerful than gasoline models, which typically develop between 2 and 2.5 more horsepower, Bajaj’s compressed natural gas (CNG) motorcycle runs on a single tank housed under the saddle, which stores 2 kilos of the gaseous fuel.
The autonomy is 200 km in CNG mode. As in cars powered by this fuel, a small additional fuel tank provides additional range. With a capacity of 2 liters on board the Bajaj motorcycle, it allows to travel an additional 130 km, or 330 km in total. Located on the handlebar, a switch allows drivers to seamlessly switch from gasoline to CNG.
In terms of maximum speed, the Freedom 125 reaches 90.5 km/h in CNG mode and 93.4 km/h in gasoline mode. In addition, it promises up to 50% savings compared to an equivalent gasoline model and is available in three variants.
