Campaign aims to encourage the safety of CNG vehicles in Rio

The campaign highlights the importance of safety in the installation of cylinders in a way that preserves – from conversion to supply – the entire CNG chain.

February 10, 2024. A marketing action in which several agents participate aims to raise awareness among owners of vehicles converted to compressed natural gas (CNG) that circulate irregularly so that they request their regularization. The campaign highlights the importance of safety in the installation of cylinders in a way that preserves – from conversion to supply – the entire CNG chain, a fuel that has the highest national demand in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The idea arose during a meeting held this Wednesday, the 7th, at the Sindcomb headquarters, with the President, Manuel Fonseca da Costa; the Executive Director of Procon Municipal, Igor Costa; Councilor Alexandre Beça; the Director of the Association of State Vehicle Inspection Companies (Assinsp-RJ), Jorge Soares, and other representatives.

Of the total of 1.6 million CNG vehicles circulating in the State of Rio de Janeiro, only 720 thousand passed the mandatory annual inspection in 2023. Of the existing fleet, 47% are in non-compliance with the legislation. Accidents occur mainly with cylinders without proven origin – reported Jorge Soares. Sindcomb Director Battista Ramundo Neto added that none of the crashed vehicles had the original cylinders installed.

Councilor Alexandre Beça reported that the signing of a cooperation agreement with Inmetro to seek traceability of CNG cylinders is in the final phase. Along the same lines, Manuel Fonseca defended the mandatory maintenance of the cylinder in the same vehicle, from its installation to the end of its useful life.

The Director of Procon proposed holding a new meeting, this time with the participation of Naturgy, Detran-RJ, Sinspopetro-RJ, ANP, Sindcomb, Assinsp-RJ and the Rio City Council to jointly develop an awareness campaign on security in the Prohibition Operation line, which has been running successfully for 15 years.
