November 7, 2021. La Groupe La Poste owned Chronopost has announced it is to run only zero- and low emissions vehicles in 24 new cities in France. The 360 new electric vehicles, natural gas vehicles (NGVs) and cargo bikes are going to be added to the fleet of more than 700 existing such vehicles working into now, 41 towns and cities across the country.
According to the delivery company, it has accelerated its use of low emission transport from delivering 20% of its parcels this way, to a target of 50% by 2025.
Among these vehicles will be NGV heavy goods vehicles for transporting goods between cities. According to Chronopost, from this month it will now operate 60 NGV road links, accounting for 36% of its HGV road links in the Paris region and covering 400,000km a year. By 2025 it aims to operate NGV HGVs on 50% of its road links nationally every year.
Martin Piechowski, Chairman of Chronopost, affirms: “Chronopost delivers approximately 1 million parcels per day. As France’s leading express parcel delivery company, it is essential that we reduce our environmental footprint and create a knock-on effect for the industry. There is nothing new about this commitment: we had already reduced our CO2 emissions per parcel by 25% between 2015 and 2020. However, we are particularly proud of the fact that we have managed to maintain and intensify our efforts despite the health crisis, with a commitment to push even further in the years to come”.
The French delivery firm has invested €25 million in low and zero emissions vehicles since 2019 and is committed to reducing its impact on the environment across its physical and road transport network.
