October 25, 2023. Compagas presents, in São Paulo, the results of the tests with the 100% natural gas bus that circulated in the first half of the year in four of the largest cities in Paraná, Brazil. The company participates in the International Green Fleet and Freight Seminar 2023, an event that addresses energy, economic and environmental efficiency in cargo and passenger transportation. Compagas’ objective at the meeting is to reinforce the importance of diversifying the energy matrix and emphasizing the role of natural gas in the decarbonization of public transportation.
The General Director of Compagas, Rafael Lamastra, spoke about the Paraná case during the panel Interaction Strategies in Infrastructure and Logistics for Green Mobility. The demonstration with the 100% gas bus was a strategic action by the company in favor of sustainable urban mobility using natural gas and biomethane, in collaboration with Scania, the Government of Paraná and the Mayors of the Municipalities of Curitiba, São José dos Pinhais, Londrina and Ponta Grossa.
In each of the cities, the vehicle circulated for a period of 30 days to certify autonomy and efficiency indicators and, in particular, the reduction of polluting emissions. Lamastra highlights that with the tests it was possible to verify the numbers presented by the manufacturer and demonstrate in practice the efficiency of the vehicle.
“In Curitiba, the competitiveness of CNG compared to diesel was greater, guaranteeing a reduction in operating costs of around 10%. Polluting emissions were 20% lower. In Londrina, with the vehicle powered by biomethane, the reduction in polluting emissions reached 95%. That is, in both cases we have more savings and sustainability for urban transportation,” he stated.
