Dourogás to supply LNG for the DOHM fleet in Portugal

The partnership between Dourogás and DOHM represents a big step on the way to decarbonizing the economy and reinforces the opportunity that biomethane represents for sustainable mobility.

July 17, 2022. The partnership between Dourogás and DOHM represents a big step on the way to decarbonizing the economy and reinforces the opportunity that biomethane represents for sustainable mobility, at a time when transportation with natural gas and renewable gases is increasingly a necessary reality.

The two companies have established an agreement for the supply of natural gas trucks: Dourogás will supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the DOHM fleet, resulting in a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional fuels. They also revealed that, being compatible with existing technology at current filling stations, LNG can be replaced by Bio-LNG, allowing for fully carbon-neutral mobility.

João Filipe Jesus, General Manager of Dourogás GNV, stated that “the agreement established between Dourogás GNV and DOHM marks another significant step on the way to achieving one of the company’s objectives: to accelerate the energy transition in the heavy mobility sector, through the transfer of traditional fuels to cleaner options, such as LNG and, mainly, Bio-LNG. Dourogás’ commitment is, by 2025, to supply biomethane of 100% renewable origin in all stations in the country and it is in this sense that we will continue to develop innovative initiatives such as those underway with Águas do Tejo Atlântico and Resíduos do Nordeste that allow us produce green biomethane, and other renewable gases, from WWTP sludge and urban waste”.

For his part, Mário Araújo, Administrator of DOHM, pointed out that “our commitment to the environment and to the energy transition means that we are permanently committed to renewing our fleet, replacing more polluting and less efficient vehicles with those that represent a clear investment in cleaner, more competitive mobility with much less environmental impact”.
