October 16, 2024. On October 10, 2024 took place the launch of Flix’s new Bio-LNG buses, held at the flagship Shell filling station in Eindhoven. It was inspiring to see Flix together with support of its partners Shell Commercial Road Transport, Scania Production Nederland, STAF CARS, Kupers Touringcars take the lead with this first of a kind initiative to decarbonize long distance road transport.
Collaboration across the entire value chain is crucial for making sustainable transport a reality. This was emphasized during the roundtable discussion between Charles Billiard Pieter Thijs, Sandra Geilings, Michał Dropko, Bert Fonteijn / Kupers Touringcars, Bram Stakenburg.
Flix now has 10 Bio-LNG buses on the road, with another 5 in production. And this is just the beginning. These buses can travel up to 1,000 km on a single Bio-LNG tank, and refueling takes just 10 minutes. For long-distance travel, where electric vehicles (EVs) aren’t yet feasible. As mentioned by Flix “Bio-LNG is by far the greenest transport that we can have today.”
In addition, Shell’s robust distribution network brings flexibility, and the CO2 savings are significant. The plan is to move from a blend to 100% Bio-LNG in the near future.
As mentioned by Bram Stakenburg from Scania, there will come a time when we stop producing diesel. We’re not there yet, but we are moving through an exciting intermediate phase, building the bridge to 100% renewable solutions with Bio-LNG and EVs. This initiative with Flix will help other transport companies to take the same step.
The bio-LNG is produced with Nordsol technology.
