July 30, 2022. The metropolitan agglomeration of Grand Châtellerault, France, will receive its first two biogas-powered buses during the month of October. Manufactured by Scania, they will refuel at the future Sorégies service station.
The units, which were acquired in July, will begin operating in November by the Keolis public transport company. The initiative required a total investment of €700,000, including €140,000 from a grant from the Vienne department.
The arrival of these biogas vehicles will coincide with the opening of the first filling facility for this fuel in the territory. Adjacent to the network bus station, it will be operated by Sorégies.
Additionally, Grand Châtellerault plans to purchase an additional four models by 2024. The first two will be delivered in early 2023 and the other two the following year. At the same time, the agglomeration will adapt its workshops through an additional financing of 120,000 euros to train staff and acquire the necessary equipment for the maintenance of the units.
“It is an investment that puts us even further down the path of the ecological transition,” underlines Hindeley Mattard, Vice President of Grand Châtellerault in charge of mobility.
