June 15, 2021. TransMaroni, a transportation company based in São Paulo, became the owner of the largest fleet of Scania natural gas trucks in the country. The firm acquired the first units in October of last year and, since then, has been lining up orders that have arrived at the end of May, adding up to 50 units. A third of the volume that the manufacturer has already traded since sales began in October 2019.
The acquisitions are part of the investment cycle of the transport company of R$ 50 million aimed at sustainability actions. In addition to trucks, which guarantee lower greenhouse gas emissions, the company also works with reverse logistics, recycling projects and waste use, training and offsetting the carbon footprint with the planting of trees in alliance with SOS Mata Altântica.
“TransMaroni has undergone strategic changes in recent years, as well as freight transport and society. We are responsible for improving the planet”, says Gustavo Maroni, the company’s Chief Operating Officer. “With the natural gas fleet, we will deliver a cleaner freight. Transportation can no longer be done without putting sustainability among its priorities.”
The trucks will be used in the food, retail, hygiene and cleaning, cosmetics and electronic commerce segments in operations in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Espírito Santo and Santa Catarina, on routes where they already have a supply infrastructure. Part of the natural gas fleet already has contracts with B2W, Carrefour, Grupo Big, JBS, L’Oréal, Nestlé and Unilever.
