Guadalajara seeks to increase public transport fueled by natural gas

June 19, 2019. Currently 10 percent of the public transport units that circulate in the metropolitan area of ​​Guadalajara, Mexico, use natural gas as fuel, but it is expected to increase that figure with the renovation of the vehicle fleet .

During the First Fair of Ecological Transport in Jalisco, the President of the Mexican Association of Natural Gas Vehicles, Andrés Bayona Insignares, explained that in this year it is expected that service stations of this fuel will be duplicated throughout the country and it is expected to arrive to states where NGV is not currently offered, among others Guanajuato and Chihuahua.

Deputy Jonadab Martinez, President of the Mobility Commission of the Jalisco Congress, said it is necessary to look for alternatives that help to reverse the damage we have done to the planet and noted that the polluting emissions of motor vehicles are in the top 10 global warming factors, if we do nothing, in 2030 the damage will be irreversible.

In Jalisco, some 356 urban public service buses and 4,000 taxis use natural gas as fuel.
