Iberis Capital acquires majority stake in Dourogás GNV in Portugal

Private equity firm Iberis Capital acquired a majority stake in Dourogás GNV, the natural gas vehicle division of the Dourogás Group.

July 10, 2025. Private equity firm Iberis Capital acquired a majority stake in Dourogás GNV, the natural gas vehicle (NGV) division of the Dourogás Group. The transaction, valued at over €30 million and involving co-investor Mello RDC and the company’s current management team, is expected to accelerate the expansion of sustainable fuel alternatives for heavy-duty transport.

Dourogás GNV became a pioneer in supplying biomethane to the Portuguese transport sector. By 2024, more than half of the company’s fuel sales were derived from biomethane, significantly exceeding Portugal’s regulatory target of 13% for biofuels.

“We already offer the most sustainable alternative to fossil fuels in the heavy-duty freight and passenger transport segment. Our goal is to further increase the share of biomethane and expand our service station network,” said Pedro Oliveira, CEO of Dourogás GNV.

Iberis Capital sees long-term value in the Dourogás GNV model, which replaces fossil natural gas with renewable biomethane, enabling public buses and freight fleets to transition to net-zero emissions.

“This business unit offers a proven model for replacing fossil fuels in transport. We believe this investment can significantly boost the growth of clean mobility in Portugal,” added Diogo Chalbert Santos, Partner at Iberis.
