Leganés modernizes waste collection with a fleet of CNG trucks

More modern and sustainable models have been chosen, since they are vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), a fuel that reduces CO2 emissions and NOx gases.

April 2, 2022. The City of Leganés will have four new urban waste collection trucks, suitable for side-loading containers, as approved by the Local Government Board of the Spanish City Council. This system will make it easier for cleaning workers to carry out emptying tasks and will not have to handle the buckets or come into contact with the waste, making the process more efficient and faster.

In this case, more modern and sustainable models have been chosen, since they are vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), a fuel that reduces CO2 emissions and NOx gases. The trucks have a nominal capacity of more than 24,000 litres, made of sheet metal and steel.

They comply with all the regulations regarding noise level, occupational risk prevention or road safety, which guarantees the rest and safety of both operators and neighbors. In addition, they will incorporate the ECO label of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) and an engine approved according to EURO 6C regulations. They also have a control system from the driver’s cab, with a control console, through which it is possible to direct all the work. It is a mechanized process that involves reducing noise nuisances and a lower impact on traffic.

The Mayor, Santiago Llorente, recalled that this acquisition will improve the cleanliness of the municipality, a priority for the local government, on which they will continue to make progress to provide a more “responsible and sustainable” service.
