February 24, 2023. The logistics operator Luft Logistics has just started testing a truck powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) and biomethane. In addition to reducing fuel costs, the vehicle reduces CO² emissions into the atmosphere. Consumption and autonomy tests are being carried out with Luft Healthcare customers located in the interior of the state of São Paulo, Brazil.

The integration of this type of units in the fleet, in addition to reducing energy costs, reduces CO² emissions into the atmosphere by 25%, according to the manufacturer MWM Motores. The engine has 315 horsepower and cylinder capacity of 172m³ of CNG. “The forecast is that, in March, the truck will operate on the Itapevi (SP) – Rio de Janeiro (RJ) route,” says Wilson Medina, Fleet and Risk Manager at Luft Healthcare.

According to Angélica Nogueira, Director of Services at Luft Healthcare, the use of natural gas will allow a sustainable practice over long distances, in addition to the 100% electric vehicle that, for now, is used on shorter journeys. “This is another important step towards sustainability in our activities”, highlights the executive.

Logistics operations in the health area involve everything from storage, transportation, and the cold chain to international freight, tracking, packaging for transportation, handling of products with special needs, reverse logistics, traceability, and environmental destination.
