Maruti Suzuki launches Eeco BS6 S-CNG in India

March 17, 2020. Maruti Suzuki has launched the BS6 S-CNG version of the Eeco in India. The Eeco S-CNG is also the fourth model from the carmaker’s portfolio to get a BS6-compliant motor in CNG guise. It is available in four trims priced from Rs 4.64 lakh to Rs 5.06 lakh. With this move, both the petrol and CNG variants of the Eeco are now BS6 compliant.

First launched in 2010, the Eeco has an 87 per cent market share in the van segment with a total of 6.7 lakh units sold until now. It is powered by a 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit that develops 74PS and 98Nm. These figures are harnessed with the help of a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Eeco is available in various iterations for different use cases. There is a 5-seater, 7-seater, cargo body style, as well as ambulance options.

The Eeco comes loaded with essential safety features such as driver airbag, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, driver and co-driver seatbelt reminder, and high-speed alert system. Maruti Suzuki is launching the S-CNG vehicles in line with the government’s plan to increase the natural gas share from 6.2 per cent to 15 per cent by 2030. Further, the Indian government is increasing the number of CNG stations across the country. It has already set up 259 stations in 2019-2020.
