Motorcycle taxi drivers convert their units to natural gas in Peru

The NGV Savings program allows the conversion of motorcycle taxis with a gasoline and LPG combustion system to natural gas.

August 16, 2024. The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), as administrator of the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE), benefits chainless motorcycle taxi drivers who wish to convert their LPG or gasoline units to natural gas, through the NGV Savings program.

This initiative arises from the use of motorcycle taxis in public transport, generated in different regions, where the transfer is mostly carried out by this means, being an economic and practical alternative for transfers on short journeys or in complicated geographies.

The NGV Savings program allows the conversion of motorcycle taxis with a gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) combustion system to the compressed natural gas (CNG) system, granting a discount voucher of S/ 2 thousand in provinces and financing the remaining equivalent to S/ 500, over a period of 3 years without interest.

In Lima and Callao, it should be noted, this bonus will also be available but only for units that switch from LPG to CNG.

The regions that benefit from this new financial support are Ica, La Libertad, Cusco, Piura, Junín, Lambayeque and Ancash, hoping to soon reach Cajamarca, Arequipa and Tacna, cities where public transport is carried out with greater demand in these vehicles.

It is important to mention that the debt can be reduced with each load of fuel, since when the loads are made, an additional payment percentage is added to the price of natural gas, which is destined to the payment of the financing.
