Naturgy Mexico recommends the use of CNG in public transport

The use of natural gas for vehicles may be the first alternative to replace gasoline or diesel in urban transport and thereby maintain an economic public system.

March 30, 2022. The use of natural gas for vehicles (NGV) may be the first alternative to replace gasoline or diesel in urban transport and thereby maintain an economic public system, according to Gustavo Trigos Loera, Head of Mobility at Naturgy Mexico.

Offering a conference at the Fifth Energy Meeting organized by the Nuevo León Energy Cluster, the businessman mentioned that in the Mexican Republic it is observed that passenger transport will register a growth of almost two times in the use of NGV in the coming years. Meanwhile, cargo transport has increased almost three times in recent years.

“If you are looking for a cheaper and more environmentally friendly option, natural gas is becoming that first alternative, almost 50% of heavy transport is going to look for this fuel, something that is already being seen now with the pandemic and with our neighbors to the north”, stressed the executive.

During his conference, Trigos Loera commented that when a government commits to a project, it can be accelerated, and cited the case of the Ecovía. “I remember that we worked on the issue and we did it in 45 days. It does not mean that the processes were skipped, what happened was that the Monterrey government helped to make the development more agile.”

Likewise, he mentioned that the company currently has 13 refueling stations in Monterrey and around 100 facilities throughout the country. He also announced that they have two to open soon and three projected.

Finally, he highlighted the environmental benefits of the use of natural gas as fuel for transportation, generating 30% less pollution.
