July 27, 2023. The Ogun State Government has began the conversion of gasoline and diesel powered State Mass Transit vehicles to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) to help reduce the cost of transportation, following the hike in pump price of petrol in Nigeria.
“We have commenced the conversion of state mass transit buses, including staff buses and public transport buses currently in circulation, to CNG to reduce the cost of transportation by charging rates that are commensurate with what obtained before subsidy removal”, said Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
“The CNG project demonstrates the commitment of our Administration to a greener environment, and it ensures affordable means of transportation in the State, especially in the wake of the removal of subsidy on fuel by the Federal Government in May.”
The conversion from fuel to CNG-powered vehicles is being carried out in the state by a team of technical engineers from India.
