Siena adds more buses powered by methane

This is the first supply of a batch of methane buses that includes a total of 14 new units for Siena, whose arrival will be completed in the coming days.

June 28, 2024. The city bus fleet is renewed in Siena, Italy. On June 18, in Piazza Matteotti, the new 10.8 meter vehicles that Autolinee Toscane (AT) has acquired, thanks to co-financing from the Region of Tuscany, were presented.

This is the first supply of a batch of methane buses that includes a total of 14 new units for Siena, whose arrival will be completed in the coming days.

The new buses, Otokar brand, Kent model, measure 10.8 meters long and have 89 seats in total (of which 26 are seats), two double doors for boarding and disembarking passengers and are accessible for disabled people in wheelchair thanks to the presence of the manual platform and a special space to travel safely; They have a closed cabin for the driver and run on Euro 6 methane engine. As in all AT vehicles, the AVM system, video surveillance and passenger counting and validation machine have been installed. Another very useful aspect for older users: at the stop, a special technology allows the boarding platform to be lowered to facilitate access for passengers.

“We continue our fleet renewal process throughout the regional territory and in the Siena area – explained the General Director of Autolinee Toscane, Jean-Luc Laugaa. In this basin we have already reached 48 new buses since the beginning of the administration. In total, we have purchased almost 400 since our arrival in November 2021. Between now and the end of the year, another 300 will arrive throughout Tuscany, for a total of almost 700 in the space of 3 years, in order to replace the oldest ones “.

“It is a great pleasure to be able to contribute to the green transition process in a splendid area like Siena, which has long been committed to renewing its fleet with sustainable solutions,” they declare from Otokar Italia.

The new vehicles, like all urban vehicles in Tuscany, are white and display the “at” logo. They will provide service in the Siena Urbano basin, on all lines.
