December 17, 2021. Companhia Paranaense de Gás (Compagas) seeks to promote the supply of natural gas for heavy vehicles in the Brazilian state of Paraná through the Blue Corridor project, which aims to implement strategic routes and supply infrastructure focused on freight transport.
Through this initiative, the company wants to expand the number of filling stations in the state that offer this type of fuel for trucks, as well as the number of heavy vehicles that use it, and also contribute to the reduction of polluting emissions.
“We understand that there is a window of opportunity to expand the participation of natural gas in the country’s transportation matrix and highlight it as fundamental for the energy transition in the context of climate change,” says Rafael Lamastra Junior, CEO of Compagas and President of the Directory of the Brazilian Association of Canalized Gas Distribution Companies (ABEGÁS).
“Being a less polluting input than others of fossil origin and being present in our day to day as a viable source for all market segments, it also contributes to the development of new technologies and the application of fuels on a larger scale”, adds the executive.
The name Blue Corridor arose from a project developed in Europe that structured natural gas supply routes and infrastructure focused on cargo transportation and made it possible to cover the main routes in the countries that make up the continent, as well as energy diversification in this segment.
In Brazil, the project was born in Paraná, at the initiative of Compagas, and today it is a reality in several states. The common goal is to interconnect transportation routes so that trucks can travel along the country’s main highways using natural gas and biomethane.
