Biomethane Fiat 500 Abarth wins competition on Pragelato ice

Biomethane-powered Fiat 500 Abarth registers its name as the first methane car to win an official AciSport competition on ice.

January 24, 2021. A new record for Ecomotori Racing Team’s now legendary biomethane-powered Fiat 500 Abarth, equipped with the Bigas/Cavagna system, which also registers its name as the first methane car to win an official AciSport competition on ice.

The “The Ice Challenge Green” trophy was held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Pragelato ice rink, a prologue of what will be the 1st Italian Championship “The Ice Challenge Green” also in Pragelato organized by a.s.d. BMG Motor Events.

According to Nicola Ventura, pilot of the biomethane 500 Abarth, “The Ice Challenge Green is a really interesting format. A few laps of recon and immediately go down to the ice for three sets of 6 laps each. Three 4.8km “flash” races with 30 secret readings, 6 laps you don’t have time to think about because you’re already on the next corner with all the traction and trajectory problems, where you don’t always decide. Beautiful! So much so that if they hadn’t waved the checkered flag, I would have spun until all the biomethane was gone from the cylinder.”

The cold in Pragelato did not bother the Bigas/Cavagna methane system in the least, allowing for a rapid and linear supply.
