September 10, 2022. The new vehicles presented by the Società Emiliana Trasporti Autofiloviari (SETA) are characterized by important elements of technological innovation and high environmental sustainability. These are 27 MAN Lion’s City buses, 12 meters long, powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) in a Mild Hybrid version, Euro 6 emissions class, which have an electric motor that integrates and supports the performance of the thermal engine. The electric motor is powered by energy with zero environmental impact, generated during the vehicle’s deceleration phase and stored in special batteries. The Mild Hybrid system guarantees a significant reduction in fuel consumption and a simultaneous reduction in atmospheric emissions. The MAN Lion’s City can accommodate up to 93 passengers, including 25 seated, and has a workstation equipped for users with motor disabilities.

They are equipped with a geolocation system, an air conditioning/recirculation system, a video surveillance system with 6 digital cameras, passenger counters, an automatic sprinkler fire extinguishing system, a manual platform for ascent/descending of users with wheelchairs, on-board diagnostic system, black box for monitoring and recording of operating parameters. These vehicles replace many other urban buses powered by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which have been in service for some twenty years. The SETA LPG fleet, present only in Reggio Emilia, will be completely dismantled by the end of 2023 with the commissioning of a further 27 new methane units. Scania Irizar i4 liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicles, Euro 6 emissions class, have a total of 71 seats (49 seated and 22 standing), including the seat reserved and equipped for users with motor disabilities.

With an investment of approximately 1.4 million euros, SETA has also built a new methane gas refueling station within its deposit in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
