December 12, 2019. The bus manufacturer Solaris (part of the CAF Group) has signed several contracts to supply green units to cities in Estonia, Poland, Norway, Hungary and Romania for a total amount exceeding 70 million euros.
Among these agreements, Solaris won the tender to deliver 100 urban buses to CNG in the capital city of Estonia. At the end of 2020, Tallinna Linnatranspordi AS, the city’s transport operator, will receive 60 articulated Solaris Urbino 12 and 40 Solaris Urbino 18 buses. For a total value of 27 million euros, this is the second largest contract awarded to the Polish manufacturer for vehicles of this type.
For the 12 and 18 meter models, the heart of these new vehicles will be a 239 kW engine converted to operate with natural gas. This engine will be equipped with a cold start function to facilitate starting at low outside temperatures, while the driving system will have automatic transmission to ensure optimum driving comfort. The gas storage tanks, five per vehicle, will be mounted on the roof, with a capacity of 315 liters each.
The buses also stand out for their large passenger capacity, with space for more than 80 passengers in the Urbino 12 model, while the Urbino 18 can transport up to 150 passengers.
