October 1, 2023. Throughout the month of August, the Madrid Municipal Transport Company (EMT) has added the latest models of buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) that will circulate in the capital, since, as of now, Madrid will only acquire electric and green hydrogen vehicles.

The City Council’s Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility Delegate, Borja Carabante, has stressed that the municipal government’s objective is for 25% of the EMT fleet to be electric in 2025, and for it to be completely zero emissions in 2030.

The newly arrived vehicles at the EMT, which Carabante has checked during a visit to the Fuencarral Operations Center of the municipal company, are part of the largest tender for CNG buses carried out so far by the municipal company, which has incorporated 520 vehicles of this type between the years 2021, 2022 and 2023.

The next awards will focus exclusively on 100% electric buses, in addition to models powered by green hydrogen, as contemplated by the Madrid 360 Strategy of the Madrid City Council.

The 20 CNG vehicles that have arrived in Madrid in recent weeks are from the manufacturer Solaris, a modern standard with a maximum power of 320 horsepower (CV) and 2,000 revolutions per minute (rpm).
