Two low-emission buses enter service in Terres de Montaigu school transport network

There are a 100% electric vehicle, the only one of its kind in the Vendée region, and another that runs on Bio-CNG.

October 28, 2025. Terres de Montaigu, France, reaffirms its commitment to the energy transition with the addition of two new low-emission school buses: a 100% electric vehicle, the only one of its kind in the Vendée region, and another that runs on Bio-CNG, offering students more environmentally friendly mobility.

These two buses reflect the commitment of the Montaigu Metropolitan Area Authority to reduce the carbon footprint of the school transport service used daily by 3,700 students in the region.

The first bus, acquired by the transport company Voyages Bourmaud, runs on electricity produced locally by photovoltaic panels installed at the company. Put into service on October 17, this vehicle has a range of 500 km and is the first electric bus operating on a public transport network in Vendée. The second vehicle, operated by the transport company Hervouet France, runs on Bio-CNG, a renewable fuel capable of reducing CO2 emissions by up to 80% compared to diesel. It will begin service after the school holidays, on November 3.

“With the launch of the first electric bus in Vendée and this second Bio-CNG vehicle, we are taking a concrete first step towards cleaner and more innovative school transport. The transition to a 100% carbon-free fleet will be gradual to ensure the quality and accessibility of this service for all families in the region,” emphasizes Anne Boisteau-Payen, Vice President of Terres de Montaigu, the regional authority responsible for school transport.
