March 18, 2020. The Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC) presented its 2020-2040 Automotive Plan, which analyzes the demand forecasts for the different technologies in the mentioned period of time. According to the report, it is estimated that in 2040 the Spanish fleet of vehicles will still have a significant percentage, more than 50%, of non-plug-in vehicles. In this scenario, natural gas and hydrogen vehicles will play a very important role.
In the commercial vehicle sector – vans, light trucks and heavy trucks – natural gas will play an indispensable role in 2040.
Heavy transport will be the segment where gas and hydrogen have the greatest role: up to 75% of heavy vehicles registered in Spain in 2040 will be CNG, LNG or hydrogen powered.
It is estimated that 21% of vans, 24% of light trucks, and 41% of then-registered heavy trucks will be natural gas powered. Hydrogen will also have a significant market share: 16% of vans and light truck registrations and 35% of heavy truck registrations will be hydrogen fueled.
