March 15, 2024. Recently, TKE Logistics, a consumer goods transportation company, located in Araranguá, in the south of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, completed a project together with one of its partners in the production of a vehicle powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).
Franco Gonçalves, Managing Director of the company, describes how the idea of obtaining a vehicle like this came about: “We always study alternatives to the way we work: What could be different? What could be the future? What would it be like in practice? These ideas coincided with those of one of our partners, who would like to use CNG units to transport its carbon neutral product. With this partnership, we created a special edition in green and white, using elements of trees and their cyclical characteristic (that they grow and bloom and that, when they fall, they can be used as fertilizer) to create its own visual identity.”
Data from the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea) show that, from January to February 2023 alone, sales of gas and electric trucks grew by 157.1%.
Brazil currently has the fourth world fleet of light vehicles powered by CNG, around 2.5 million, according to IBGE data provided by the Association of Channeled Gas Distributors (Abegás).
“This vehicle has characteristics that can especially benefit companies that want to reduce their environmental impact and are capable of producing their own biogas. In road operations, the companies that have begun to use this type of units are those that seek to encourage the development of alternatives and structures for the popularization of new technologies. They are the early adopters,’” says Gonçalves about the benefits for the operation.
