September 7, 2021. Scania has delivered two integral low-floor buses that serve the first regular line of a commuter consortium powered by biomethane in Spain. “This supply is the result of the successful test of a previous pilot project that circulated more than 8,000 km powered by biomethane produced from pig slurry”, indicates Ignacio Cortezón, Commercial Director of Buses and Engines at Scania Iberica.

The units supplied are integral low-floor and are equipped with Scania’s renowned CNG powertrain with which more than 1,000 units already circulate in Spain, with 280 hp and the best torque-power ratio on the market. These vehicles have 1,440-liter fuel tanks that allow ranges of more than 500 km and numerous safety and energy-saving systems.

The buses have been bodied by Castrosua with the New City model that includes the latest advances with 2 electric doors, double manual/automatic ramp, cameras, USBs, full LED lighting, imitation wood flooring, anti-virus screen, and the maximum number of seats accessible without steps in the segment. The medium and long-distance operation with biomethane is ideal, without limitations of autonomy or power, with contained costs, the greatest reduction currently possible in CO2, always above 80% and implies a recovery of agricultural and urban waste, avoiding thousands tons of methane emissions into the atmosphere that generate a greater greenhouse effect and help create a circular economy with zero waste and generate jobs locally and fix population in rural areas.
