Rolande opens LNG filling station in Hamburg

Rolande, pioneer and market leader for the development of infrastructures for LNG and bio-LNG in the Netherlands, opened an LNG refueling station with two LNG dispensers in Hamburg.

October 1, 2022. Rolande, pioneer and market leader for the development of infrastructures for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and bio-LNG in the Netherlands, opened an LNG refueling station with two LNG dispensers in Hamburg at Malfeldstraße 23. The former Tankpool24 station is located on a strategically important transport corridor for goods deliveries to Scandinavia, northeastern Europe and the transport of containers to and from the Port of Hamburg. With the Hamburg location, Rolande is further expanding its public LNG filling station network in Germany.

The public 24/7 self-service filling station has two LNG dispensers. It makes a significant contribution to establishing LNG as an environmentally friendly fuel. Due to the spacious entrance and exit, the filling station is optimally dimensioned for heavy trucks. The futuristic architecture of the filling station is functionally adapted to the requirements of CNG/LNG trucks. With its filling stations, Rolande makes an important contribution to the currently existing LNG network in Germany, which currently includes 135 public filling stations (according to the German Energy Agency DENA).

With the opening of the filling station in Hamburg, Rolande is making progress in setting up a Europe-wide LNG network. The company has already achieved full coverage in the Netherlands and Belgium, and further locations are also planned in Germany by the end of the year.

“Hamburg marks a milestone for Rolande to make liquefied natural gas available for all trucks at strategic transport hubs,” says Jolon van der Schuit, CEO of LNG pioneer Rolande. “LNG is an important step towards sustainable fuel. As soon as emission-free Bio-LNG is available in sufficient quantities, Rolande will offer 100 percent biological fuel at all its stations.”

The use of CNG and LNG is subsidized by the state in Germany. For example, HGVs that run on compressed or liquefied natural gas are exempt from the German road tolls until December 31, 2023. This saves the freight operator up to 18.7 Eurocents in road tolls for each kilometre driven.
