Bürstner presents its first natural gas motorhome

June 26, 2021. The German manufacturer of recreational vehicles and caravans, Bürstner, has presented the Eliseo motorhome powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) with a range of about 400 kilometers.

“With the Eliseo CNG unit, we want to give our industry inspiration for a more environmentally friendly future. At the moment, the alternative fuels issue receives little support from RV manufacturers and demand remains weak. However, as soon as we manage to extend its autonomy and the density of the distribution network increases, this market could experience stronger development dynamics,” explains Jens Kromer, Managing Director of Bürstner.

This first prototype was developed on the basis of the 100 kW/134 hp Fiat Ducato “Natural Power”. Equipped with five natural gas tanks with a total capacity of 22 liters/36 kg placed under the ground so as not to reduce the available living space, the motorhome has a range of 400 kilometers on natural gas. A reserve of 15 liters of gasoline is available in case the user needs to reach a filling station beyond the expected CNG range.

By emitting only a few particles and very low amounts of NOx and carbon, potential versions of CNG motorhomes could finally attract customers who are mindful of their carbon footprint; but above all it would offer them, thanks to the Euro 6D regulation, access to certain urban centers that are now prohibited for motorhomes due to excess CO2 emissions per kilometer.
