Camisea Consortium promotes natural gas consumption in buses and trucks

May 13, 2023. With the purpose of benefiting the transportation of cargo and passengers in Lima and Callao, the Camisea Consortium announced that it is about to launch a new stimulus plan, through which carriers will be granted interest-free financing to four years, for an amount of up to 45,000 dollars, for the change from diesel engines to natural gas vehicles (NGV).

This was announced by the Manager of Large Clients of Pluspetrol, Pablo Campana, who added that said financing is also for the acquisition of new vehicles that run on natural gas.

This new benefit, which will contribute to the massification of natural gas in Peru, will be financed with the resources of a fund of more than 30 million dollars, which the Consortium created in 2021, to promote the NGV consumption.

The Consortium confirmed the continuity of the “Camisea NGV Bonus” plan that was launched in 2022 together with Cálidda, which consists of the delivery of an incentive of between 10,000 and 15,000 dollars to those interested in acquiring buses or trucks that run on natural gas.

The executive also presented other proposals with which the Camisea Consortium promotes the use of natural gas in the mobility segment in the country, either as CNG or LNG.

Among these initiatives under study, the expansion of the “Gas to Cusco” plan, which has been promoted since 2020 in alliance with Limagas, stands out. The objective now is to build a fourth CNG service station in that city, with an investment of 2 million dollars, which includes the conversion of more than 1,000 taxis, as well as the incorporation of 40 passenger transport buses to natural gas.

Currently, Cusco has two NGV stations in the districts of San Sebastián and San Jerónimo, and another will soon be inaugurated in Quillabamba.

To date, the arrival of natural gas in Cusco, through this initiative of the Camisea Consortium, has allowed more than 3,000 vehicles to convert to this fuel, reaching an approximate consumption of 16,000 m3/day (higher than the national average per station).

Likewise, Campana reported the recent agreement with Limagas for the installation of 4 LNG stations in the center and south of the country, in which the Camisea Consortium will invest 2.4 million dollars; an initiative with which incentives will be granted for the acquisition of more than 120 heavy-duty trucks, powered by LNG.

These stations will be strategically distributed in a “LNG Corridor”, which will allow the main transportation routes of the center and south of the country to be linked.
