August 15, 2021. Promoted by the Companhia Pernambucana de Gás (Copergás), the “NGV Viability in Heavy Vehicles Forum” virtually brought together national experts and the latest news from the sector. With the presentation of data, studies and cases, the speakers showed the strengthening of the trend in the use of this fuel in trucks and buses. After consolidating in the light vehicle market, NGV is now expanding its presence in heavy units.

The beginning of the event was in charge of Fabrício Bomtempo, Technical-Commercial Director of Copergás. “The gas sector in Brazil is going through a very interesting moment, of openness, with a greater diversity of actors and greater competition in supply. An example of this is Copergás, which historically has only had one supplier and as of this month it should have three, “he said, also highlighting the” sustainable growth “of the network of NGV stations in Pernambuco and the natural gas expansion process. in the State, with projects in Petrolina (in Sertão) and in Garanhuns (Agreste).

The Forum had three speakers, who were in São Paulo: Paulo Genezini, head of Scania’s sales engineering in Brazil; Ney Franzini, representative of Landi Renzo, the world’s leading Italian company in the CNG and LNG equipment segment; and Ricardo Valejjo, partner and researcher at Consulgás (SP), a consulting firm specializing in natural gas.

The first presentation was given by Paulo Genezini, from Scania. The automaker is currently the only manufacturer in the country that produces trucks powered exclusively by gas. The model was launched in 2019 and more than 200 have already been sold in Brazil. “Many alternative fuels are still in the development stage. They will come in the future, some sooner, some later. At Scania we understand that gas is the most appropriate for today’s Brazilian reality. Not only today; it is here to stay and it will always have its place even if other technologies arrive, in 10 years or more, ”he said.

The next conference was given by Ney Franzini, from Landi Renzo, who spoke about the Dual Fuel system, developed by the company to convert diesel engines into engines that run on a mixture of diesel and natural gas.

Then it was the turn of the consultant Ricardo Vallejo, who addressed the “blue corridors”, as the routes that have service stations for gas-powered vehicles are called. He stated that the study of brokers in Brazil should be finished next year; He explained the impact of diesel imports on the trade balance (the country is not self-sufficient in its production) and presented reports and statistics that show the potential of natural gas in Brazil and in the world. “Starting in 2026 we will have a boom in the gas market in Brazil,” he said, citing a projection from the Energy Research Company (EPE).
