July 14, 2023. In Chile, one of the main markets in the Latin American region and with the highest growth in the last year, Andes Motor joined in 2022 as a new strategic partner of Iveco. Through them, 15 S-Way liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks were delivered to Grupo San Gabriel, a client with the largest LNG fleet in Latin America. This equipment is added to 35 liquefied gas Stralis that the company has owned since 2022.
The vehicles will be used, among other jobs, to transport Nestlé products -a multinational food and beverage company with great global recognition-, and part of them will be driven entirely by women who were trained by Grupo San Gabriel through its program ‘ Woman, drive your future’.
“Introducing the first LNG-powered S-Ways to the Latin American market represents a very important milestone. It is part of the innovation that we pursue from Iveco and Andes Motor and that, in this case, materializes in the introduction of new combustion alternatives”, said Carlos Niebirt, Deputy Manager of Trucks for Iveco in Chile.
The LNG-powered S-Way is the first truck on the market to use natural gas as fuel and was specifically designed for long-distance international transport, so much so that today it holds the world record for autonomy for a LNG vehicle, achieving a 1,728 km traveled on a single charge.
