April 15, 2024. The city of Gijón, Spain, has been the setting chosen by Gasnam-Neutral Transport to carry out the various activities organized on the occasion of its General Assembly. Specifically, the facilities of the Port Authority of Gijón, one of the main seaports of the Atlantic Arc and the leading port in the movement of solid bulk, have been the ideal setting for a hundred professionals to discuss which are the key levers for promote the use of biomethane, hydrogen and their derivatives, and decarbonize different modes of transport.
The General Director of Energy and Mining of the Government of the Principality of Asturias, María Belarmina Díaz, and the President of the Port Authority of Gijón, Laureano Lourido, were in charge of opening the General Assembly. During her speech, the General Director announced that her department will publish in the next seven days in the BOPA (Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias) a call for aid for renewable energies and energy efficiency that reserves an amount of 63,000 euros for LNG/CNG and another 105,000 euros in subsidies for biogas projects, and added that the regional government has granted almost 300,000 euros of aid for LNG/CNG in the last three years and more than 150,000 euros for biogas. In addition, she announced that in the second half of this year the Renewable Gas Strategy of the Government of Asturias will be presented, in parallel to the review of the Just Energy Transition Strategy, and that they hope to collaborate with Gasnam-Neutral Transport to be part of the working groups.
Subsequently, the President of Gasnam-Neutral Transport, Silvia Sanjoaquín, the Maritime Vice President, José Poblet, and the General Secretary, Eugenia Sillero, detailed the actions carried out by the association in these first months of the year, in addition to explaining the various initiatives that will be launched to promote development and innovation in the field of renewable gases in transport.
At the end of the meeting, the partners made two technical visits to the El Musel regasification plant and the Astilleros Armón docks in El Natahoyo, where they had the opportunity to visit the Margarita Salas fast ferry, powered by LNG, owned by Baleària.
