March 9, 2020. The leader in combined rail and road transport in France, TAB Rail Road, has just received five new Scania G 280 that run on compressed natural gas (CNG), bringing its ecological fleet to more than forty units.

Considered one of the pioneers of CNG, TAB Rail Road systematically renews its fleet with clean vehicles when use permits. Its latest acquisition has been these 5 trucks from the Swedish manufacturer that will provide daily routes of 200 to 300 km.

“In terms of the cost price of the CNG vehicle compared to diesel, the advantages and disadvantages are balanced. Also, reselling diesel units tomorrow can be much more difficult. This also encourages us to renew our fleet with trucks that work with natural gas”, explains Jean-Claude Brunier, President and CEO of Open Modal, the holding that joins TAB Rail Road and rail operator T3M. “The challenges for tomorrow’s transport are having prices in the market, a high-quality, virtuous, sustainable and intelligent service thanks to digitization: tomorrow’s transport will be clean, sustainable, intelligent,” said the businessman.

For TAB Rail Road, the use of these gas trucks is only one of the two pillars aimed at reducing its CO2 emissions. By using rail for long-distance transportation, the company reduces the number of trucks on the road and emits less CO2. A winning combination that saved the company some 40,000 tons of CO2 in 2019.
